Jason Schayot ’97 named a semifinalist for the 2022 Music Educator Award.
The Recording Academy and GRAMMY Museum have announced semifinalists for the 2022 Music Educator Award, which recognizes current educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the music education field and demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools. Southwestern alumnus Jason Schayot ’97 is one of the 25 semifinalists. The semifinalists are comprised of teachers from 24 cities across 16 states and were selected from more than 1,135 initial nomination submissions from 49 states.
Schayot is currently the Fine Arts Coordinator and Director of Bands at L.V. Berkner High School in the Richardson ISD. During his time at SU, he was involved in men’s basketball and choir and was a member of Pi Kappa Lambda and Delta Omicron.
The finalists for the 2022 Music Educator Award, presented by the Recording Academy and GRAMMY Museum, will be announced this December, and the recipient will be recognized during GRAMMY Week 2022.
